After half a century in the fashion industry, it’s fair to say that Karl Lagerfeld has an eye for an image. Whether its working in his atelier, wandering the streets of Paris at night in search of inspiration, or engaging with models, muses and contemporaries, there are few who have shared his point of view.
Fortunately, the man is also a photographer. After he was initially encouraged to shoot press images for Chanel by the brand’s image director Eric Pfunder, Karl has gone on to shoot full-blown campaigns for Fendi, Dior Homme and Chanel as well as stacks of editorials and a number of more abstract artistic projects published as books. A series of those images will now be shown in an exhibition at the Pinacotheque de Paris.
According to WWD, the images will span Karl’s photography career incorporating his diverse styles – from polaroids to daguerrotypes – and will give insight to Lagerfeld’s view on both the fashion industry and the world at large.
